Abstract:
The damped multimodulated fluorescence of a mutually interacting material quantum system and quantized radiation field is described in terms of the temporally quantized theory derived recently to deal with such processes. An important consequence of the theory is that all components of the fluorescence must have the same quality factor. Thereby, without interjecting any phenomenologically based damping rate-constants, the theory is able to accont quite well for the fluorescences of appropriately excited rubidium atoms interacting with various weak radiation fields contained in low-temperature cavities. Alternative theoretical expressions able to account for these fluorescences require the damping rate-constants to be fitted to them ad hoc. The simplicity of the temporally quantized theory in not requiring these additions serves to corroborate its quantitative completeness. Fluorescence experiments yet to be carried out are suggested which appear to be capable of testing directly the temporal quantization feature of the theory.
