Abstract:
A new unambiguous and conceptually improved renormalization method is formulated in nonrelativistic QED. Without introducing any artifical mass (or energy) counter-terms in the Hamiltonian, the terms stemming from the experimentally unobservable free-electron–vacuum-field interaction are directly identified and completely removed from the corresponding equations of motion for the bound electron.
