Pulse solution of crack propagation

Hiizu Nakanishi

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2000, vol. 288, issue 1, 409-416

Abstract: A pulse solution for a propagating crack resticking after breakage is presented for mode III crack in a two-dimensional continuum model. A compact expression of the solution is obtained in the infinite sample width limit by using a real space representation of the Wiener–Hopf solution obtained before. It is shown that the cohesive zone is not necessary around the resticking region in order that the continuum model does not have a diverging stress.
