Abstract: The Ising model in a transverse field has been used for a long time to describe ferroelectric phase transitions. Quantum tunneling and zero point energy effects in double potential wells have been shown recently to give rise to analogous behavior at the phase transitions. In this work we show that Monte Carlo simulations of the temperature dependence of the order parameter, the susceptibility and the specific heat in Ising like systems with increasing zero point energy describe well the evolution of the phase transition in these systems from classical to quantum, reproducing the behavior of quantum paraelectrics at low temperature.
