Abstract: The effect of the transverse field Ω on bulk melting and layering sublimation transitions of a spin-1 Blume–Emery–Griffiths (BEG) model is studied using the mean field theory. It is found that there exists a critical value of the transverse field Ωl above which a sequence of layering sublimation occurs before melting bulk transition.
