Abstract: We present a new way to implement quantum controlled phase-shift gate, quantum exchange gate (SWAP gate), and quantum state transfer with two 3-level atoms in cavity QED. The method does not involve real excitation of a cavity photon during the operation, thus decoherence induced due to the cavity-photon decay is minimized. In addition, it is remarkable that for all present purposes, no auxiliary atoms or any measurement is needed. Therefore, the operation is significantly simplified.
