Estimating order statistics of network degrees

J. Chu and S. Nadarajah

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2018, vol. 490, issue C, 869-885

Abstract: We model the order statistics of network degrees of big data sets by a range of generalised beta distributions. A three parameter beta distribution due to Libby and Novick (1982) is shown to give the best overall fit for at least four big data sets. The fit of this distribution is significantly better than the fit suggested by Olhede and Wolfe (2012) across the whole range of order statistics for all four data sets.
