Abstract:
Here is introduced a simple heuristic model which emerges from a type of variational framework aimed to solve the problem of the relation between linguistic diversity and area from a maximization procedure. We show that this model reproduces the robust scaling law for linguistic diversity versus area observed today on Earth for the largest 147 countries with area superior to 18,000 km2.
