Abstract:
In this work, we studied the shape of mortality curves for a population under different conditions using a bit-string model for biological aging. More specifically, we studied how the model parameters affect the shape of the mortality curves. Although these curves are in reasonable agreement with the Gompertz law for the increase of mortality, for a extended range of ages, other parameters play an important role to determine the overall behavior of the mortality’s curves.
