Abstract:
We describe differences between the statistical behavior of two distinct systems by appeal to a new quantifier that we call a free-energies divergence. Using it, new perspectives arise with regards to a comparative analysis of the two simplest gas model-equations. We are speaking here of (1) the van der Waals (vdW) one and (2) the ideal gas equation. Rewarding insight will be seen to be achieved, in particular with respect to statistical features of the phenomenological vdW equation.
