Abstract: We investigate the ground-state phases and phase transitions of extended Bose–Hubbard ladder by using the dynamical cluster-Gutzwiller mean-field(CGMF) approach. Unlike the single-site Gutzwiller mean-field (SGMF) theory, the intracluster hopping and NN interaction terms are undecoupled, while the intercluster hopping and NN interaction terms are decoupled in the CGMF method. Therefore, the system generates the novel quantum phases and quantum phase transitions. In addition to the conventional superfluid (SF) and Mott insulator (MI) phases, we also find the loophole insulator (LI) phase, three kinds of the charge density wave (CDW) phases, i.e., the integer-CDW, half-integer-CDW and CDW-II phases, and two kinds of the supersolid (SS) phases, i.e., the SS-I and SS-II phases. The density distributions of the ground-state phases are also discussed. The Z2 reflection of two chains is broken by the intracluster NN interaction, the density distributions of the L-chain and R-chain of the CDW-II and SS-II phases show the characteristic of interleaving each other.
