Abstract:
Although the blended wing body aircraft has been long speculated to be the next-generation passenger aircraft, its boarding processes remains relatively unexplored. In this study, we investigate possible boarding strategies for the blended wing body aircraft. The uncertainty in the design of the blended wing body aircraft and future civil aviation industry requires that boarding strategies must be evaluated from multiple perspectives, including adaptability, practicality, boarding rate, occupancy rate, passenger compliance, etc. We propose a novel boarding strategy specifically designed for the blended wing body aircraft, which can be used for different blended wing body aircraft. Performances of boarding strategies adapted from those commonly used today are also evaluated. As a result, while the performance of the novel boarding strategy is limited by operational constraints, it demonstrates better efficiency and robustness compared to conventional boarding strategies.
