Abstract:
Applying the diagrammatic technique for the more complicated level scheme of spin-one, two-sublattice systems with biquadratic exchange, the elementary excitations for T ǂ 0 are obtained: two pairs of spin waves with double degeneracy in both the antiferromagnetic and the ferriquadrupolar phase, and one pair of quadron waves with two-fold degeneracy in the antiferromagnetic state of the system. Analytical expressions are derived for the zero-point contribution to the ground-state energy and the dipole as well as quadrupole reductions in the framework of spin- and quadron-wave theory for antiferromagnetic and ferriquadrupolar phases. The dipole and quadrupole reductions in the antiferromagnetic case for the quadratic lattice are discussed in more detail. In the calculations use has been made of the (1/z)1 approximation, where z is the number of spins interacting with any given spin.
