Non-equilibrium thermodynamics of a discontinuity surface

Abstract:
A comprehensive axiomatic system of the non-equilibrium thermodynamics of a surface of discontinuity is formulated. The general formulation of the axioms is applied to the problem of an n-component visco-elastic isotropic non-polar mixture. The effect of mass currents from one phase to the other on the formulation of the hypothesis of local equilibrium is discussed.
