Abstract:
The relation of the linearized hydrodynamic equations to kinetic theory is discussed. We show that the theory of subdynamics provides a general framework for their derivation. This theory and the related transformation theory permit the construction of a Lyapounov functional that for the hydrodynamical processes, considered here, becomes the macroscopic entropy as given by Gibbs relation.
