Abstract:
A method to obtain the analytic form of limit cycles is presented from a viewpoint of constants of motion in dissipative systems. The method is applied to the Lorenz equation in the high-Rayleigh-number limit. The analytic form of the simplest limit cycle is obtained, which is in a good agreement with the result of computer simulation.
