Abstract:
Strategic supply chain planning relies on accurate, long-range forecasts. Accurate forecasts, in turn, rely on the availability of suitable data and information from which a prediction can be made. In some domains, such as vendor managed inventory, product consumption data may not be available because of a lack of collaborative information. Delivery records are on occasion substituted for absent consumption data. This substitute information, however, can appear lumpy and intermittent due to the bullwhip effect and other logistics factors.
