Abstract:
Analysis of Latvian energy sector development in the last years (1990–1996) shows that it is a positive tendency - increasing role of the local and renewable energy resources in the energy balance of Latvia. Increasing utilization of biomass, wind energy, energy from small hydro power stations, biogas, etc. was occurred in the last years. Perspective energy balance of Latvia for 2020–2030 was worked out with MARKAL model, according to the renewable energy resources increasing utilization. Reducation of GHG (Green House Gas) emissions are important in Latvia too.
