Abstract:
Besides the necessary policy measures concerning financial or legal aspects of the current energy market, the deployment of renewables can be facilitated by the establishment of different practices in energy analysis and planning. The present paper shows that in order to promote renewables it is necessary to shift from a centralised view of the energy sector to a regional perspective. A bottom-up approach intended to match, at the regional level, the supply of available renewable resources to the particular energy demand profile is presented. The proposed methodology is illustrated by a case study concerning two different Greek regions.
