Comprehensive energy system with combined heat and power photovoltaic-thermal power stations and building phase change energy storage for island regions and its coordinated dispatch strategy

Abstract: Most island regions are located in remote areas, making it difficult to establish stable connections with mainland power grids. However, they are abundant in solar resources, and fully utilizing solar energy for electricity generation will partially alleviate the current energy shortage on islands. Solely relying on photovoltaic power generation poses significant challenges to the operation of island microgrids and cannot avoid large-scale curtailment of solar power. Solar thermal power generation with thermal storage exhibits good synergy and is suitable for power supply in island regions, but it involves high construction costs and difficulties in large-scale implementation. Therefore, this paper proposes a coordinated scheduling scheme for the application of combined heat and power (CHP) solar thermal power plants and building phase-change energy storage in islands. CHP units help improve the output efficiency of solar thermal power generation, while building phase-change energy storage helps alleviate the constraints of the unit's thermal-electric ratio. Thus, this scheme can simultaneously meet the increasing energy demand of islands, enhance the operational economics of units, and effectively reduce the operational costs of island microgrids. Simulation examples validate the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed coordinated scheduling scheme.
