Back contact optimization of both sub-cells in bifacial perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell

Abstract: In this study, a 4-terminal (4T) bifacial perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell has been studied by the finite element method regarding recombination to optimize the interdigitated back contacts (IBC) for both top and bottom cells. The top cell's IBC simplifies the charge carrier's extraction which is proven by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis also, it serves as a grating to enhance the light-harvesting by introducing higher-order diffractions. The electron and hole transporting layers of SnO2 and NiOx have been considered for the CsMAFAPb(IBr) top cell to constitute the IBC configuration. The optimum period and grating width of the top cell's IBC have been obtained at 700 nm and 350 nm, respectively, offering a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 19.3 %. The heterojunction silicon bottom cell with an IBC configuration including amorphous silicon has been investigated under the different albedo reflections. The PCE of 12.7 % has been achieved for the optimum bottom cell's IBC gap width of 1280 μm at 2 mm period. Finally, the total PCE of 32 % has been obtained for the proposed solar cell under average albedo reflection. The presented simulation steps in this study can offer a noteworthy roadmap for tailoring 4T perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells in bifacial configuration.
