Abstract:
In the early 1980s there was considerable interest in using biomas gasification units for both electricity production and crop drying. A number of units were proposed to be installed in various island countries of the South Pacific. Only a small number however, were actually developed. The following paper gives some of the history of the installations since 1986 and results of field monitoring visits to power gasifiers in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands and heat gasifiers in Papua Nwe Guinea.
