Rural electrification and potential of photovoltaics in Sabah, Malaysia

Abstract: Rural electrification in the state of Sabah, Malaysia is described. The rural electrification target of achieving 90% electrification in the state by the year 2000, using conventional systems, is facing problems of cost and reliability. The potential of photovoltaics is discussed as a viable alternative.
