High performance domestic solar desalination system

Abstract:
This paper presents a newly designed, high performance solar desalination system suitable for domestic use. In this system the evaporating and condensing zones, unlike in conventional stills, are separated in two different units. The advantages of the force condensing technique and shallow basin still are integrated together to improve the system performance. A new approach of storing excess solar heat energy during the day for the continuation of the desalination process at night is introduced. Also heat energy absorbed by the evaporator-zone back-plate wall is utilized to improve the system efficiency. Exhaustive data collected during 11 months are analyzed and presented to show that the performance of the system is higher.
