An investigation of cadmium telluride thin-film PV modules by impact pathway analysis

Abstract: This paper discusses the environmental and health impacts which could be caused by cadmium telluride PV modules using impact pathway analysis. This approach allows an assessment of the major source emissions, burdens and impacts on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. This enables a detailed analysis of possible health impacts at the workplace and in the public domain. Cadmium and its compounds are known to be highly toxic if inhaled and/or ingested and can cause lung cancer in humans and animals. Compliance with existing health and safety regulations on maximum exposure levels should reduce the risk to the environment and occupational and public health.
