Abstract:
The Asian developing countries are classified with respect to their socio-economic situation and energy resource endowment. Energy utilization levels for both commercial and biomass-based fuels are indicated in relation to resource availability. Renewable energy technologies and the potential in the region are briefly reviewed, as well as the technological potential and R&D activities for energy development. The paper concludes with a discussion of research imperatives for energy sector planning.
