The impact of regional artificial intelligence development on the resilience of enterprise supply chains

Leyin Ma, Xuchen Luo and Meinong Xi

International Review of Economics & Finance, 2025, vol. 102, issue C

Abstract: Enhancing supply chain resilience has become a critical issue for firms seeking to mitigate external disruptions and ensure sustainable competitive advantage. Using data from Chinese A-share listed companies, this study examines the impact of regional artificial intelligence development on firms’ supply chain resilience, with a particular focus on two dimensions: supply chain resistance and recovery. The findings reveal that regional AI development significantly enhances both supply chain resistance and recovery, primarily through the mechanisms of optimizing supply-demand matching and improving supply quality. Heterogeneity analysis further indicates that the positive effects of regional AI development are more pronounced for high-tech firms and non-state-owned firms. This study enriches the research framework on the determinants of supply chain resilience and highlights the importance of regional AI development as an external digital environment.
