International Review of Economics & Finance, 2025, vol. 102, issue C

Abstract: The resilience of the manufacturing industry chain is crucial for driving the high - quality development of the manufacturing sector. This paper constructs an evaluation system from four dimensions: resistance, recovery, adaptability, and renewal ability. The entropy - based TOPSIS method is employed to measure the resilience of the manufacturing industry chain across 30 provinces from 2013 to 2022. Additionally, the regional disparities and dynamic evolution of the measurement results are examined using the Dagum Gini coefficient and Kernel density estimation. The findings indicate that: (1) The resilience level of the manufacturing industry chain in all regions of China has been on an upward trend year - by - year, exhibiting a spatial pattern of “Eastern region > Central region > Western region > Northeastern region”. Each dimension follows the trend of “resistance > recovery > adaptability > renewal ability”. (2) The overall disparity in the resilience level of China's manufacturing industry chain has widened annually, with inter - regional differences being the primary cause of the overall variance in resilience levels. (3) The centroids of the Kernel density curves for the nation and the four major regions generally shift to the right, and the absolute differences tend to expand. However, there are significant variations in the specific manifestations across different regions. This study provides theoretical basis and empirical support for promoting the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry by constructing a scientific evaluation system for the toughness of the manufacturing industry chain and accurately measuring the level of toughness of the manufacturing industry chain in each province of China.
