International Review of Economics & Finance, 2025, vol. 103, issue C

Abstract: This study utilizes panel data from 31 provincial-level administrative regions in China spanning 2010 to 2023 and constructs a two-way fixed effects regression framework to systematically examine the pathways through which the development of the digital economy influences the elderly care industry. The econometric analysis results indicate: first, the digital economy significantly promotes the development of regional elderly care industries; second, the urban-rural income disparity plays an important moderating role in the linkage mechanism between the digital economy and the development of the elderly care industry; third, the driving effect of the digital economy on the elderly care industry exhibits notable regional heterogeneity; fourth, the stimulating effect of the digital economy on the elderly care industry has threshold characteristics, varying with the level of population aging in the region.
