Does education exchange matters?-evidence from education cooperation effects on OFDI

Abstract:
•This article analyses the effect of education communication across borders on the OFDI from parent country based on an important panel date of China and countries from the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.•The regression result shows that education communication will shorten cultural distance, improve diplomatic relationship and enhance infrastructure of host country, then stimulating more OFDI from parent country.•The study also find that OFDI from parent countries also influenced by host countries’ economic development level, bilateral relationship with parent country, technology level, infrastructure, and social development level.
