Abstract:
Based on the 2016 and 2018 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this article studies the impact of the development of the digital economy on household private insurance participation. It investigated and explored the mechanisms through probit and tobit models. The empirical results suggest that the development of the digital economy can increase household participation in private insurance by improving consumption, financial literacy, and social interaction. Heterogeneity analyses indicate that the digital economy has a greater positive impact on participation in private insurance for households with low incomes, low educational attainment and rural households.
