•How academic structures shape their entrepreneurship education programs to anticipate changes in the business environment?•Pedagogical experiments based on business school's expertise in education help responding to current students’ challenges.•Academic programs deal more with general human capital transfer approach, and then evolve into a more specific one.•Pooling individuals from different disciplines in an entrepreneurial education program favours venture creation.•Mixing human and social capitals in academic technology centres favours innovation and entrepreneurship.
