Exploring the relationship between network routines and innovation ecosystem performance in China: The moderating effect of transaction dependence

Abstract: This study reveals the relationship between network routines (NRs) and innovation ecosystem performance (IEP) from horizontal and vertical perspectives, and examines the evolving rules in diverse dependency situations in the Chinese context. Using data from 305 eco-chain enterprises in high-tech industrial parks and eco-tech innovation communities in China, the main effect of NRs on IEP and the moderating effect of transaction dependence is empirically studied. The results in the Chinese context show that NR has an inverted U-shaped relationship with horizontal IEP (HIEP) and is positively correlated with vertical IEP (VIEP). If the sequential dependence is higher, then the inverted U-shaped relationship between NR and HIEP shifts to the left and the promotion effect of NR on VIEP increases. When the circular dependence is higher, the inverted U-shaped curve between NR and HIEP is steepened and the positive relationship between NR and VIEP is weakened.
