Fostering innovation speed and quality in ICT firms: The role of knowledge governance mechanisms, absorptive capacity and environmental dynamism

Abstract: While considerable research has probed into the dynamics of innovation through knowledge management, significant gaps persist. The current study addresses these gaps by exploring the impact of formal and informal knowledge governance mechanisms (KGMs) on innovation speed and quality through the mediation of absorptive capacity. In addition, the moderating role of environmental dynamism in the interplay between absorptive capacity and innovation speed and quality is also examined. Data for this two-wave time-lagged study is collected in a survey from 331 managerial employees working in different organizations in the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector. Using WarpPLS 7.0 for statistical analysis, the study found that formal and informal KGMs have a positive significant relationship with innovation speed and quality through the mediation of absorptive capacity. Further, environmental dynamism positively moderates the relationship between absorptive capacity and innovation speed and quality. The findings contribute by enhancing our understanding of the role of KGMs in fostering innovation speed and quality, providing actionable insights for organizations to improve their innovation strategies.
