A maximum likelihood estimator for the intervening opportunities model

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to derive the maximum likelihood estimator for the intervening opportunities model when zonal data on the number of opportunities and the number of trip ends are available. An approximation to the estimator is also derived and assessed.
