Abstract:
The first part deals with the concentration and integration processes that tookplace in the tin mining industry during the 1920’s. It is argued that the articulation of theextractive and metallurgical sectors, although allowing for a better grip of world tin supply, turned the industry as a whole less capable of adjusting itself to market conditions. Thesecond part shows the adverse effects of the policies implemented by the International TinCommittee. Finally, the path that led to the nationalization of the industry in the producingcountries and the ways through which the reins of the market passed to the consumptionside are also considered.
