Abstract:
The objective of this essay is to describe and analyze the main trends and transformationsin the Brazilian economy in the period following the Second World War. The first partbriefly outlines the basic antecedents of Brazilian economic growth in recent decades, as wellas the main structural problems that are present today. It also suggests the fundamental characteristicsthat result from the presence of two key players in the Brazilian economic scenario:the State and transnational corporations. The Second Part describes the major cycles observedin the post-war period, analyzing the factors and conditions that explain the main turningpoints or phases. The last section outlines the main characteristics of the recent evolution ofthe Brazilian economy, as well as the conditions for an alternative development strategy. Thisis the second part of the study. The first part was published in the last number of this journal. JEL Classification: O40; O47; N16; O14.
