Development and nation in Bresser-Pereira: a “round journey”?

Abstract:
This paper discusses the theme of development in the intellectual production of Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira. The variations in his conceptions are strongly related to his professional and political circulation and its production may be categorized in four main variations: national-developmentism, industrialized underdevelopmentism, crisis of State and new developmentism. In the long run, the work of Bresser-Pereira reveals an author searching for the protagonist of Brazilian development process. JEL Classification: B31.
