Abstract: The current exchange rate crisis has eroded the intervention capacity of the government.At this point, the government must renegotiate the terms of the external debt ofBrazil. This commentary showcases the efforts by economists from the opposition throughoutthe 1970s of alternatives and the challenge of the external debt while also rememoratesthe path to the current situation.
