Abstract:
The main goals of this paper were to construct a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) for Brazil using data from PNAD and also provides an analysis of its evolution for the period 2004-2015. The proposed IPM follows the method developed by Alkire and Santos (2013). The results confirm the reduction on the incidence of multidimensional poverty in Brazil. However, people move out of poverty into the stage of vulnerability, showing a gradual improvement on living conditions. Regionally, there was a reduction in the incidence of poverty in the whole country, and notably in the North and Northeast regions. JEL Classification: I32; I31; D31.
