State intervention and drought in Northeast Brazil

Abstract:
The vast region of the Brazilian Northeast has a significant proportion of itsterritory subject to severe droughts. This paper provides an analysis of the government’sresponse to the great droughts the region underwent since the imperial period in the nineteenthcentury. JEL Classification: Q54; Q25; N56.
