The Judicial Settlement of Disputes Arising out of Space Activities: Returning to an Old Proposal

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show that foresighted proposals in the field of humanities or science can contribute, even at a later date, to the solution of important problems. Thus, a proposal made more than thirty years ago by a jurist to the effect that the Chambers of the International Court of Justice (I.C.J.) should be used to resolve conflicts between states arising out of space activities, is gaining now momentum. Today, the employment of the Chambers by the I.C.J. has become the newest and possibly the most effective source of the Court's competence in resolving problems of international law in general.
