Religious Expression in the Workplace: Embracing HR Diversity in the New Normal

Abstract: Purpose: This study examines religious expression in the workplace as a facet of human resource diversity, focusing on its implications in stationary and remote work. The study explores the perceptions and openness of employees to religious expressions by coworkers and supervisors, aiming to understand the nuanced impacts on organizational dynamics. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research employed a two-stage methodology. First, a qualitative assessment, second, a quantitative survey of 1,000 Polish employees. Findings: The findings provide actionable insights for managers and HR professionals on strategies including flexible work arrangements, awareness programs, and fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity. Practical Implications: The study reveals that religious expressions, such as displaying symbols or engaging in practices, are perceived as more significant in remote than in stationary work. Manifestations by coworkers hold greater importance than those by superiors in remote environments. The research underscores the increasing relevance of religious expression in fostering inclusivity and employee well-being, particularly in the context of remote work. Originality/Value: This study fills a research gap by integrating religious expression into workplace diversity discussions, particularly within the remote work paradigm.
