European Research Studies Journal, 2025, vol. XXVIII, issue 3, 108-137

Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this article is to propose a novel method for evaluating the transport capabilities of companies operating in the abnormal transportation sector. Design/Methodology/Approach: The method proposed in this article evaluates the transport capabilities of companies by analyzing three key areas: the size and quality of the transport fleet, the number and experience of personnel, and the supporting elements used. For the purposes of this article, a survey on the reliability of tractor units was developed, along with a method for assessing the adaptability of semi-trailers for transporting various types of cargo. Findings: The application of the described method enables a comprehensive assessment of transport capabilities in the abnormal transportation sector, integrating both qualitative and quantitative data. The results allow for benchmarking across companies and identifying deviations from an ideal reference state. In a pilot study involving three enterprises, the calculated capability indicators were 0.58, 0.66, and 0.71 (with 1.0 representing the ideal state). Practical Implications: The method supports strategic and operational decision-making by providing a clear visualization of a company's current situation. It facilitates the identification of inefficiencies, optimization opportunities, and directions for future development. Originality/Value: This study makes several unique contributions including, analyzing key criteria in the abnormal transportation industry that impact company competitiveness, evaluating the usability of tractor units in the abnormal transportation segment, proposing an innovative method for assessing the transport potential of enterprises in the abnormal transportation sector.
