Abstract:
Identifying the characteristics of long-term unemployment at the early stages in terms of gender, educational level and age is important in determining labour market policies to be concentrated for certain groups. In this paper, causes and charecteristics of long-term unemployment in both the EU countries and Turkey were comperatively investigated. While from the gender point of view there is a common ground, from the other aspects such as age and education, long-term unemployment rates in Turkey -due to some special features of Turkish Labour Markets- suggest different characteristics than the European countries in general.
