Trends in Patenting Activities: Worldwide Evidence and Turkish Case

Abstract: This paper investigates the worldwide patenting activities over the last 15 years according to income groupings of the countries with a distinction of residentand non-residents of the applicants. The innovative capability of the Turkish economy is also explored by utilizing a newTurkish patent data set for the period 1985-99. Sector-level analysis is carried out by making a distinction between residentand non-resident Turkish patent grants with the emphasis being on the technological composition of the grants
