The Impact of Climate Change on Rural Development Within the Framework of Sustainable Development

Hatike KOÇAR Uzan

Fiscaoeconomia, 2023, issue 3

Abstract: Climate has been undergoing changes since the formation of the Earth. Climate change is one of the most significant issues that will affect the lives of humans and other living beings in the short and long term. This situation highlights the necessity to combat climate change. There are many reasons behind the emergence of climate change. In particular, the use of fossil fuels and increased industrialization starting from the 19th century have contributed to the occurrence of climate change. The effects and consequences of climate change present a global problem that affects the entire world. Natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, and droughts occurring in various parts of the world demonstrate the global dimension of the climate change problem rather than its national dimension. Currently, climate change has reached a level that will negatively impact the lives of all living beings on Earth. Agricultural activities are among the areas that will be adversely affected by climate change. Agricultural activities are crucial for the livelihoods of humans and other living beings. However, natural disasters such as droughts, wildfires, and floods resulting from climate change negatively affect agricultural activities, leading to a decline in food supply and security. Therefore, addressing this issue from the perspective of sustainable development is necessary to ensure food security and prevent future problems in food supply. In this context This study aims to examine the impact of climate change on rural development within the context of sustainable development.
