Abstract:
In the year 2023, Turkey is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic. It would be meaningful to revise the economic outcomes and achievements during the first ten years of the Republic by making a special reference to the journal Hakimiyet-I Milliye (29 October 1933, no:4441). The journal gives almost a complete history of the developments during the first decade in 92 pages. The first four pages under the title “Gazi (Mustafa Kemal) and National Revolution†are consecrated to answer the question and explain why and how the great leader Mustafa Kemal realised the revolution and established a new order in the country. In the following pages, the Republican People’s Party, unique and secular tribunal, state budget and public finance, Central Bank and Turkish Lira, industrialisation, banking sector, agriculture and peasantry, domestic and foreign trade, infrastructure and public works, transports (railways, maritime lines, airways), army, national security, health and education services, customs, urbanisation, culture, arts, archaeology, and Red Crescent Association are the other major themes in the journal. The pages decorated with historical photographs as well as the advertisement in the end pages make the reading more fascinating.
