Long-term Projections of Water Supply and Demand

Hua Xie and Claudia Ringler

Foresight: The International Journal of Applied Forecasting, 2023, issue 69, 43-47

Abstract: In Foresight's issue 66, research scientists from IFPRI provided an overview of the issues and methods in long-term projections of food production and demand. Now, Hua Xie and Claudia Ringler, also from IFPRI, describe efforts on long-term projections of water supply and demand. While early research focused on understanding future availability of water resources and the global water cycle (the supply side), attention has now shifted toward projections of future water demand.
