Abstract: This article details some findings concerning the development of Danish multifactor productivity (MFP) over the period 1966-98. A growth account using data with no distinction between different types of labour shows MFP accounting for a large share of economic growth. As in the U.S., contributions to aggregate MFP are concentrated within trade, agriculture and some manufacturing industries. Also as in the U.S., a pick-up in MFP growth is seen for the 1990s. Using a very detailed data set, the growth contributions from composition effects due to sex, age, education and job type are assessed. Composition effects are found to account for a contribution of 0.25 percentage points annually, with education and age driving most of the effect. Reallocation effects are found to account for 0.08 percentage points annually, with most of the re - al location taking place within the private sector.
